Photo Prints
There are ways and
places to get cheap photo prints!

Cheap photo
prints are easy to get if you do a little research and look for
the best bargain. This subject comes up on every holiday, event,
or vacation. Some people just have to get or make actual prints of
photos and be able to touch and pass around physical prints. Even
though with digital cameras you can view the photos on your
computer, television, or even send them digitally to family and
friends.
Printing photos at home with your inkjet printer can get expensive. If you just do a few, the convenience is probably worth the few extra dollars. But if you have lots of photos to print, you
can pay up to 5-10 times the cost of getting them at some retail photo printing center or
from online photo sharing websites.
With many
of the high quality inkjet printers and new special inks that are
resistant to fading and last as long as photo paper prints, you
can make some beautiful photo prints at home. But you will pay for
that convenience dearly. What you are trading is convenience for
money, just like buying frozen food that you just warm and serve.
Lets take a
quick look at what it costs to do basic 4 X 6 photo prints at
home. If you buy 100-sheet pack of glossy photo paper that is 4" X 6" it
usually costs from $12-$15. Then add in a set of inkjet printer cartridges
(one tri-color and one black for most inkjet printers), they can cost
at least $40 for the set and often higher. The ink companies say you can get about 75 4" X 6" prints out of each
set of cartridges but that never happens at my house. More like 45 or 50
tops.
So if you add the $40 and the $15 you get a total cost of $55. If you
can get 45 prints the cost is $1.22 each. Those aren't cheap photo
prints. If you go down to the local drugstore or retail photo printing store you can usually get 4" X 6" prints for about
$.11, and they often have specials for as low as $.12 each.
No matter
how math challenged you might be, it's pretty oblivious that you
can save over a $1 per print. Even if you go with third party ink cartridges and
photo paper for half of the brand name prices you still save $.50 per print at the retail stores.
And if you want, you can also put the prints on a cd for storage
for a few extra dollars.
And you can
often get the cost of a 4 X 6 print down to $.09 at online
websites if you order X amount of prints. So there are places you
can get cheap photo prints if you willing to wait a few hours or
even a couple of days to get your prints.
Another
good way to save some money is to go through the 60 photos you
took and weed out the ones that are less than stellar. You know,
the photos of the floor or ceiling, where the flash didn't work,
or just flat bad photos. You can often get rid of up to 20% of
your print costs just deleting the ones that aren't worth printing
anyway.
Speaking of
bad prints, how many times do you lose prints due to software or
computer glitches, running out of ink, or printer feeding
problems? Chances are that you probably lose a few bucks there
too. And even though your inkjet printer will do an outstanding
job of printing the photos, they do it very slowly. Maybe 5
minutes a print even at 4 X 6. And an 8 X 10, well that could be
up to 25 to 30 minutes each.
So if you
want to send 2-3 prints to Grandma, printing them at home might be
fine. You can live with the cost and time it takes. But if you're
going to want 30 or more photo prints, do it at a local retail
center or online to get the best deal. You'll save up to 80% by
letting the professions do the photo printing.
Cheap photo
prints are available in several ways and the savings can be
considerable when you get into any serious quantities. Save the
home printing for a quick couple of prints but go to the retail or
online websites for any large numbers.
