Digital Photo Frames
are a great way to have your favorite
photos displayed anywhere in your home or office!
|
Digital
Photo Frame models come in sizes from 7 inches to up to 32 inches
wide. They are also called digital picture frames and can be used
to display everything from products to personal photos of your
last vacation. Many come with very attractive cases and some even
play music too. But it really comes down to the best screen
technology and easy to use software when it comes to getting the
best bang for your buck.
So how do
you pick the best deal Digital Photo Frames? Well, it depends on several
key features that any good digital photo frame should have. Here's a quick
rundown of must have features and abilities:
-
Display
Size: Size does matter in displaying photos, sizes start
at 7 inches wide and go up to 32 inches (yep, they come that
big but I would go with a digital tv before I'd go that big
for a photo frame).
-
Resolution:
The resolution has a huge impact on the display and should be
appropriate for the size (bigger the frame the higher the
resolution should be).
-
Connections:
You should have at least a USB port and HDMI connectors are
even better depending on your picture source. If your photos
are coming from a computer you should have a high resolution
video card too. And there are wireless models by most
manufacturers for those that want to use a computer.
-
Software:
Each brand or model may have different software to help you
manage your selections but ease of use is important.
-
Internal
Memory: Not an absolute if you can leave a USB device
plugged in with your digital photos or an actual computer
attached. But if not, then you want as much internal memory as
possible to get as many photos on board to display.
-
Price:
Most people have some sort of budget and the bigger the frame,
the more they cost. You can get a fairly good low end 7 inch
model for about $60-70 but I would not recommend going that
low since many of these are pretty unreliable and often fail
within months of purchase.
There are
many brands and models of digital photo frames available but in my
opinion, one brand stands above all others for two huge reasons.
The quality of any of these devices is important since they are
meant to operate for long periods of time. And the software has
got to be easy enough for anyone to use but also have the
necessary features to allow some flexibility.
The only
brand that I know meets both of these challenges is Sony. Now
before I tell you about the Sony models the other brand I want to
mention is SmartParts at the other end of the quality spectrum.
SmartParts models have gotten more bad press (and very deserved)
by very unhappy buyers. They are cheap and sound great in the ads
but they have very serious quality issues.
OK, so why
do I like Sony so well? You might pay a little more for a Sony
Digital Photo Frame but you get your money's worth. I'm not to
going to too far into Sony since you can read more here: Sony
Digital Photo Frame. Sony offers the best product hands
down in both features and quality. The screens are great, the
software is easy to use, and they last forever. The 7 inch model
sells for around $120 (cheaper models can go as low as $65 but you
get what you pay for).
A Digital
Picture Frame spends a lot of time on, so you need a pretty good
quality control system to give that kind of hard core operation.
Plus the screen resolution on a Sony model is perfectly matched to
the size of the digital frame. So your pictures look great on any
size. The setup and operation is simple but also offers many
capabilities most people want.
So when
you're shopping for a Digital Photo Frame, use the short least of
important features above and compare each one. I think you'll see
that Sony meets or beats any other available unit at any price. If
you are on a tight budget and really can't shell out over a
hundred bucks, the Viewsonic models are a pretty good choice. I
think they have an 8 inch model that goes for around $75 dollars
that's got a lot of nice features and some very good feedback from
most buyers.
Like any
electronic device, be careful when handling and don't forget to
turn it off if nobody is there to see it. This will extend the
life of any Digital Picture Frame. Also consider the position
or location, keep any Digital Photo Frame out of direct sunlight
for both the viewing quality and the wear and tear on the unit.
