Easy
Digital
Camera?
Ease of use is a huge
factor for many new photographers!
|
When
someone asks me what's the easiest Digital Camera to use I
immediately think of Kodak's EasyShare models. But there are
a couple of issues I have with any prospective easy digital camera
that does not have a eye viewfinder and Image Stabilization. These
two features are must have for ease of use, especially for
beginners.
The kicker
is only one of the major brands have eye viewfinders that are
under $200 anymore. The rest have all opted for larger LCD
viewfinders, which still can cause issues for people since they
have to hold the camera out and away from them to look at the LCD,
and many LCD viewfinder are difficult to use in bright light
(outdoors). Plus for fast photo shooting there is no lag in an eye
viewfinder like the LCD versions often demostrate.
The clear
winner is the Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD.
It comes in several colors; pink, green, blue, and silver. The
going price as most retail outlets is around $129. You can put
this model on Smart Auto and rock and roll. The software that comes with
it does a great job of downloading in separate directories and has
all the bells and whistles if you want them.

The
PowerShot AS1100IS is easy to hold and only weighs in at 7.2
ounces. It fits in any shirt pocket at approximately 4 X 2.5 X 1.2
inches. With the AA Alkaline batteries you get about 140 shots, if
you use rechargeable batteries you can get up to 200 shots per
set.
The auto
exposure capabilities that Canon has built into this small digital
camera is what makes it so easy. It auto balances the contrast,
scenery settings, auto red eye adjustments, face recognition and
tracking, and image stabilization at all points on the zoom lens.
And as I
mentioned it has a eye viewfinder with real image zoom that provides a great fallback
for those times the 2.5 inch LCD viewfinder might not work as
well. The zoom lens is the equivalent of 35mm to 140mm and the
new DIGIC 4 image processor has amazing power and speed. Throw in
the the ability to shoot movies and you have a great all around
easy digital camera.
The
Canon PowerShot A1100 IS is the perfect combination of an easy digital camera, great photo quality, and has
a very reasonable price. Small, light, and great automatic features makes this our number one choice for ease of
use and well suited for any beginning photographer.
